Amiko Viper 4K V40 / Changelog
Changelog
0.6.25 02.11.2026
- Fixed Octagon SF8008 with the 2024 board: the receiver no longer restarts by itself a minute after start-up when the HDMI-CEC link to the TV hangs; only the CEC commands stop.
- Improved Beta testers: interface crashes and freezes now reach the team ahead of ordinary logs, with their stack traces, together with the receiver's board version.
0.6.24 02.11.2026
- Improved The list of trusted authorities for secure (HTTPS) connections is brought up to date, to the Mozilla version of August 2026: new roots are added, withdrawn ones are removed.
0.6.23 02.11.2026
- Improved The "$" in the channel list now shows on every channel the receiver knows is encrypted, from "Detailed scan" or from an earlier switch, not only after a new search.
0.6.22 02.11.2026
- Fixed Changed settings are no longer lost when the watchdog restarts a frozen interface: the receiver writes them to disk every 10 seconds, only when something changed.
- Improved The scan in the web interface clearly says when an entry is hidden by the chosen user level and where you change it.
- New The web interface links to the web interfaces of installed extensions that have one, on their own port.
- New On the web interface panel, the “Message on the TV” box sends a text that shows for 10 seconds on the receiver's screen.
- New The About screen now thanks all the beta testers, in the order of their contribution on the forum.
0.6.21 02.11.2026
- New In the channel list: “$” on scrambled channels and the source (Satellite, Cable, Terrestrial); turn them off in OSD Preferences, under “Channel list marks”. “$” comes after a new scan or once you watch the channel.
- New Remote assistance tells the team which receiver asks for help, through a fingerprint of the board (it does not reveal the MAC address or serial number), and for beta testers also the name given at sign-up.
- New Remote assistance can read the system files (tuners, board, memory, logs); passwords, secrets, your data and the access modules stay closed, and the assistance log shows you every file read.
- New Remote assistance copies the settings before the first change; the Blue button or the web interface puts them back as they were (plugins installed meanwhile stay).
- New Ukrainian can now be chosen from the menu language list, on the TV and in the web interface.
0.6.20 01.11.2026
- New Satellite: 16APSK and 32APSK can be chosen in the search, the transponder list and the signal display; reception is not yet tested: no APSK transponder has locked yet on the V20.
- New Remote assistance is complete: the team sees the screens, the settings and the channel picture, passwords, PINs and other secrets appear as asterisks, and only the access module screens stay closed.
- Improved While you wait for assistance, the screen asks you to leave it on for at least 30 minutes if we do not connect right away.
- New V10: “Start other images”, as on the Octagon SF8008.
- Fixed Octagon SF8008: if the TV does not answer the HDMI-CEC commands, the receiver turns CEC off by itself and the interface no longer freezes.
- Fixed The steps for the DeepL key are rewritten for the current DeepL website, with links in the web interface to the free plan sign-up and to the page of your credentials.
- Improved Beta tester: logs that only show a good state are no longer sent as errors, and the channel logs (tuning and decoder) are richer.
- New Subtitle translation: you can add as many credentials as you like for each service, from the same account or from different accounts; when one runs out of quota, the receiver moves on to the next by itself.
- Improved The up and down arrows now both open the TV channel list; if you want the radio list on the up arrow, choose it in OSD Preferences, under “Up and down arrows while watching”.
- Fixed Extensions: .ipk packages on a USB stick or disk install again from the “From file” tab; until now the screen said the file could not be installed from there.
- New Octagon SF8008, SF8008 MINI and V10: satellite “Blind scan” now starts here too (Si2166 and AVL62X1 tuners); it is the first version, not yet tested on these receivers, so tell us how it works.
0.6.19 01.11.2026
- New Blind scan (Channel scan > Satellite): the receiver finds the transponders on the satellite by itself, including those missing from the list. For now only on the V20; the other receivers get it later.
- New The Abertis streams on 30°W: all 38 are in the receiver's list, with the channel names, in their own bouquet, and the satellite search finds them by itself.
- New From your home network you log in to the receiver directly, without a password, over SSH, SFTP, FTP and Telnet (Telnet is now on, for the home network only); from outside only with a key.
- Fixed Octagon SF8008 Supreme with the 2024 board: the interface no longer freezes at start; the HDMI-CEC read, which the board driver held up, now runs separately.
- Fixed Octagon SF8008 with the combined DVB-T2 and DVB-C tuner: the terrestrial search keeps the channel frequency, so the DVB-T2 channels it finds (for example TVR on channel 22) also play; search the channel again.
- Fixed Octagon SF8008 with the 2024 board: the report of a failed start no longer reads the settings that stop the kernel, and it also sends us the place in the program where the start stopped.
- Fixed Dish rotation: the screen no longer closes on the up and down arrows (step size), on stop or when it shows a message.
0.6.18 30.10.2026
- New Octagon SF8008 and SF8008 MINI: Menu > Power & Restart > Start other images lists the images installed in the other slots of the memory; pick one and the receiver restarts into it.
0.6.17 30.10.2026
- Improved The texts of the complete remote assistance are translated into all the menu languages.
0.6.16 30.10.2026
- Improved Remote assistance is now always complete: the start page has only the consent row and Start, without choosing a read-only level.
- New The assistance now also takes direct steps: it starts a channel, changes a setting, installs or removes a plugin from the official feed and restarts the interface; the assistance goes on afterwards.
0.6.15 30.10.2026
- New Remote assistance now has Full control: the team can set up your receiver through the menus (dish, channels, installs from the official feed), never the access module settings or your personal data.
- Improved The screens of the access modules, passwords, Wi-Fi and SSH access stay closed to the team; every key it presses shows in the assistance log.
- Fixed The menu capture in the assistance is now a small picture (JPEG), so it also works on Octagon SF8008.
- Fixed The language names in the list are translated into the chosen language, and the Lithuanian menu has its labels written correctly.
0.6.14 30.10.2026
- New The menus can now be chosen in 15 more languages: Slovak, Croatian, Serbian, Slovenian, Greek, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Catalan, Icelandic and Frisian.
- Improved Menus and settings no longer show the “untested” mark: all the software is in beta.
- Fixed Octagon SF8008 combo: the cable search (DVB-C) finds the channels, confirmed by a beta tester on a real receiver.
- Improved Thanks to the beta testers who helped with this version: Marius.
0.6.13 30.10.2026
- New Remote assistance is now for everyone: its own row in Menu > Settings, under Beta tester. One page, a ticked row and Start; no code is shown anymore.
- New At the end of remote assistance the receiver shows what we found and what we did, in a window that stays until you press OK; read it again with Yellow on the assistance screen and in the web interface.
- Improved Team messages during assistance stay on screen for at least 30 seconds and come one after another.
- New On a new receiver, the first satellite tuner comes set up for your country so you can scan right away: in Romania Thor 0.8°W on DiSEqC A and 19.2°E on DiSEqC B. What you set stays.
- New If the startup takes long, the front display and the screen show the step the receiver reached; if the interface does not appear within a minute and a half, the diagnostic code appears, with the page address.
- Fixed The interface no longer freezes while reading board information (sound, HDMI, picture, processor), as it did on the Octagon SF8008: the readings run in the background.
- Fixed On the V10, Octagon SF8008 and MINI the system log is no longer filled with HDMI-CEC messages (10 per second); the TV remote works as before.
- New On the Octagon SF8008 and MINI, Wi-Fi works out of the box with the RTL8192EU, RTL8821CU, RTL8822CU and MT7601U USB adapters: plug in the adapter and pick your network.
- Improved On the Octagon SF8008 and MINI the start no longer waits for the network: without a cable or with Wi-Fi only, the receiver reaches the menu about 10 seconds sooner; the address then comes by itself.
- Fixed On the Octagon SF8008, the combined DVB-T2 and DVB-C tuner also works on cable: in Tuner settings you choose what it is connected to, aerial or cable, and the cable scan finds it.
- New On the Octagon SF8008 the terrestrial scan also finds the DVB-T2 multiplexes, with their PLP, and the channel bar shows DVB-T2.
- Fixed On the Octagon SF8008, commands for the motor and the DiSEqC switch are no longer taken as failed: the motor screen no longer stops them or shows an error.
- Improved The Octagon SF8008 and MINI now get updates from the menu like the other receivers: each receiver takes only the packages made for it.
- Improved Thanks to the beta testers who helped with this version: Marius, nutu72 and lordjedy.
0.6.12 29.10.2026
- New When the beta testers' Privacy notice changes, the receiver tells you by itself, and Accept turns sending back on, with your choices so far. The same in the web interface.
- New DVB-T2 terrestrial reception: the scan finds DVB-T2 multiplexes (Romania, Ukraine and the rest of Europe), with their PLP, and the channel bar and information show DVB-T2. Rescan terrestrial once.
- Improved Combined DVB-T2 and DVB-C tuner: in Tuner setup you choose what is connected, terrestrial antenna or cable, and the matching settings appear; by default it follows your channel list. The same in the web interface.
- Improved Remote assistance: you turn it on for 2 hours, 12 hours, one day, one week, one month or permanently, and turn it off at any time. Your request reaches us by itself, and you can say briefly what you need help with.
- Improved Thanks to the beta testers who helped with this version: nutu72 and Wlad.
0.6.11 29.10.2026
- Improved The beta testers' Privacy notice is now version 2: it describes the receiver fingerprint, so that a receiver is counted only once. Testers read it and accept it again once.
0.6.10 29.10.2026
- New The channel editor, on the receiver and in the web interface: move, copy, rename, hide and delete channels and bouquets, with undo, a backup copy and the list of changes before saving.
- New In the web interface the editor also has an advanced mode with transponders and channel details, logos set on channels, a list check, import that shows the differences and search with * or a typo.
- New On the receiver the editor opens from the channel list on its satellite or provider, imports and writes the list on a USB stick, as an archive or m3u, and shows the channel logos on the rows.
- New When startup fails, the receiver shows a diagnostic screen with an error code and what it read about the board, the processor and the drivers. Take a photo of the screen and send it to our forum.
- New If the interface cannot start, the receiver shows the code and its address on the front display, the diagnostic screen on the TV, and the same details on a page opened from a computer.
- New Your receiver's forum, on the receiver and in the web interface: read your model's thread, translated into your language, and as a beta tester write posts and add screenshots.
- New The screenshot button saves the screen to a USB stick or, without one, to the receiver's memory: on the remote it is the third button with a screen drawing, on a USB keyboard Print Screen.
- New When you add a picture to a post, the screenshot gallery opens directly, newest first; in the web interface you can also take a screenshot on the spot or upload a picture from your computer.
- New Your forum name is changed with MENU on the forum screen, on the forum web page or in Public profile, and it shows at once on all your posts.
- New If the receiver does not start, it sends an anonymous technical report by itself, with no personal data, and shows its code on the front display.
- New Logs of the other slots, in Settings > System & Devices: what the other slots left behind after a failed start goes out with one press, to a USB stick and to our team.
- New Receiver password, in Settings > Network & Internet and in the web interface: you choose the password for SSH and SFTP, see it there at any time, and the password works only from your home network.
- Improved A short press of GREEN while watching TV opens Plugins & Applications, as in other receiver software; on a channel with subservices it shows their list first. Choose another action in the colour button settings.
- Improved DVB-T2 via satellite now also handles the Spanish distribution feeds on 30W: the multiplex carried in one PID is unpacked and its channels go to the list; encrypted feeds are reported as such.
- Improved DVB subtitles read as text now always appear as text and get translated, even if a word is misread; tall, narrow lettering is now read correctly.
- Improved The startup diagnostics can be read at any time in Menu, under System information, and in the web interface, where one button copies all the text.
- Improved After a successful startup no extra note appears on the screen any more, also on models not yet confirmed.
- Improved On Octagon and the other receivers with the same board video program, the interface now starts after it, with the same steps as their usual software, so the picture reaches the TV.
- Improved Extensions written for the old version of the programming language, which no longer run here, are recognised before installing: Extensions says why and offers the replacement from our feeds, if any.
- Improved The HELP button and Help under System information open the receiver help; its pages, which work without internet, come with a later update.
- Improved The blue button opens the list of bouquets, with Favourites first, also after importing channels from other software. The Favourites bouquet name appears in the menu language, also in the channel editor.
- Improved Beta tester has a new look, in the style of the menus: see at a glance what you get as a tester and the latest forum posts, and remote assistance is requested only from the tester menu.
- Improved On Octagon and on the first V10 receiver the signal quality bar now shows the right value, not 1 percent with a good picture.
- Improved A receiver installed in several slots or reinstalled is counted only once as a beta tester.
- Fixed The receiver screen in the web page shows the channel picture again, also right after start-up or a channel change, not only the on-screen menus.
- Fixed On Octagon receivers, the startup message now shows the right recovery steps, holding Standby and choosing Recovery From USB, not those of another receiver.
- Fixed Remote assistance sends the receiver's correct model and version, and the tester menu shows the last sending right after it leaves.
- Fixed On Octagon and on the first V10 receiver the buttons of their remote now work: recording, pause and play, rewind and fast forward, stop, YELLOW for the sound, and CH+ and CH- change the channel.
- Fixed On Octagon and on the first V10 receiver the picture decoder now starts as in the usual software of these receivers, so that the channel picture appears on the whole screen.
- Fixed A disk on the receiver's SATA port, internal or eSATA, is now used as the recording disk, just like a USB disk.
0.6.9 27.10.2026
- New Remote assistance (off by default): you turn it on in Settings > Network & Internet; you see a code and a sign on screen, and the HD Satelit team only reads the receiver's status and logs, for as long as you choose.
- New The beta tester programme, in Settings > Beta tester: with your consent you send us anonymous data, only what you choose, write us messages and can leave at any time, with your data deleted.
0.6.8 26.10.2026
- Fixed The update from the menu no longer says it failed when it was installed. If an extension was left half installed on the receiver, the old message may still appear once, while this version is being installed.
- Fixed In Extensions, a successful installation no longer shows as failed because of another extension left unconfigured on the receiver.
- Fixed Holding POWER opens the shutdown menu again when it is chosen for the long press; before, nothing happened.
- Fixed The Satellites list no longer says "never received" for positions scanned by this receiver; the "from another list" mark appears only on imported positions with no signal here. The same in the web interface.
- New Holding a colour button while watching TV opens what you chose for it in the colour button settings, on the TV or in the web interface. A short press works as before.
- Improved Every scan, including one stopped before the end or made in the startup wizard, records the received transponders in the signal history.
- Improved The update log, the extensions log and the DAB+ and T2-MI errors are now kept after a restart, in the system logs, on the TV and in the web interface.
0.6.7 25.10.2026
- Fixed Picture in picture (PiP) is visible again: the small window used to start without a picture.
- Fixed In the web browser, page menus that opened only under the mouse now also open with the arrow buttons of the remote.
- New In Extensions, the first row of each list is a filter: you choose the feed and the type of packages shown. The same in the web interface.
- Improved The receiver watchdog quietly restarts the services that stop, such as the receiver name on the home network; the trace stays in the logs.
- Fixed Disks and storage now also shows the stick mounted by the system.
- Improved Screenshots requested from the web interface and by plugins take the channel picture only when the decoder is ready.
- Improved In the scans, OK opens the choices of the row, and the scan starts only with the green button.
- Fixed Plugins now see the software version and the receiver model correctly, and the guide of internet channels no longer mixes up their lists.
0.6.6 25.10.2026
- New The external plugins feed from Monea Software is now built in: its plugins show up in Extensions, ready to install.
- Improved Extensions > Sources now shows only the feeds, HD Satelit and Monea Software (external plugins), plus the sources you added; the receiver picks what suits it on its own.
- New In Extensions, each package shows where it comes from under its name, and plugins with their open source next to them have a Download source button (blue key) that saves it to the stick.
- Improved The V30 model is now confirmed: the note for testers no longer shows at startup.
- Improved After an installation from Extensions, the downloaded packages are deleted from the receiver's memory, and some packages no longer ask for an interface restart.
- New In Extensions, the MENU key updates all packages at once, and at the end of each installation and list download you see exactly what was done.
0.6.5 24.10.2026
- New Channel logos (picons) now also show on the info bar and on the second bar, in both themes; the channel name moves to the right only when there is a logo.
- New New row in General settings and in the web interface: Channel logos (picons). When it is off, no logo shows, not even in the web channel list.
- Fixed Channel logos now also show in the channel list and in the guide, whole even in the small boxes (the usual 220x132 files).
- Improved The channel list menu has a single row for Favourites, and Import channels and settings is no longer marked as untested.
0.6.4 24.10.2026
- New Importing channels and settings from a backup of other receiver software can now bring the network and Wi-Fi too; if the receiver loses the network, it puts the previous one back by itself.
- New The import also brings the picons and the safe menu settings, for example the time zone; the language stays the one you chose.
- New The plugins found in the backup are offered to you at the end of the import and are installed only if you want.
0.6.3 24.10.2026
- Improved Groundwork for one more receiver model, for testers for now; on your receiver everything works exactly as before.
- Fixed The subtitle you chose on a channel now comes back by itself after switching channels and after standby.
0.6.2 24.10.2026
- Fixed After a restart, the subtitle you chose on a channel comes back by itself even when its teletext page appears only after the channel starts (for example ZDF HD, page 777).
- Improved With the TV off, subtitles are not read or translated; the translation screens and the web interface now say so, and the translation starts by itself when you turn the TV on.
- Fixed The model guard and the update from a USB stick show the version running now, not the one first written to the receiver, which is shown separately as the base.
- Fixed In System information, under Tuners, you see which signals each tuner can receive, for example DVB-S2X for satellite and DVB-T2 for cable and terrestrial.
- Fixed DVB-I: the add dialog says address, like the web interface, and Reload with no list chosen no longer says it succeeded; in DVB-MABR, the search has a plain message.
0.6.1 23.10.2026
- Improved A film or internet channel that would not start for lack of decoder memory now starts by itself: the receiver restarts once and opens the film, with no error message.
- New In System information, under Memory, you see when the decoder memory was last freed and why.
- Improved The phone apps password and the key for scripts are hidden on the TV and in the web interface; you see them only when you choose Show.
- Improved This receiver's software no longer starts on the V30 model, which has the same board but more internal memory: there it only says that it is for another receiver.
- Fixed Deleting a DVB-I address, a DVB-MABR group or an IPTV source now asks for confirmation, as in the web interface.
- Fixed In Interface language, EXIT keeps the previous language, not the one the cursor stopped on; in Parental control, Red (Cancel) really cancels.
- Fixed Texts fixed: “site” instead of “sit” in Romanian, the angle calculator buttons, DVB-MABR, Input devices and how each tuner is used, in your language.
0.6.0 · Beta launch on Amiko Viper 4K V20
Version 0.6.0 is the first public release of the HD Satelit image, launched as a beta on the Amiko Viper 4K V20. Below, everything built so far is grouped by theme, as it works today. From here on, new features arrive as update packages installed from Software update, with a new entry here for each version.
Subtitles
- DVB subtitles are scaled up to the size of the screen. The receiver can also read them as text, including those sent in strips, as on ZDF, so they can be translated too; Subtitle appearance and the web page show how many pages were read as text and why others stayed as pictures. Help ›
- Teletext subtitles, subtitles from files and DVB subtitles read as text are translated into your language automatically. The translation appears instead of the original or below it, in light yellow with the original in white; the receiver waits up to 2 seconds so it can show the translated text straight away. Help ›
- With translation on, the receiver picks the subtitle on any channel by itself: first one in the translation language, then teletext, then a DVB subtitle read as text, and translates it. Picking a subtitle in another language can be turned off in Audio and subtitle language, on the TV and on the web. Help ›
- A subtitle line that cannot be translated appears in the original, with (not translated) in front. How long translated subtitles stay on screen is set in Reading time: Normal, Longer or Longest. Help ›
- In Subtitle appearance you choose the size, colour, outline, shadow, background, height and letter style of text subtitles, with a sample line on screen, on the TV and in the web interface. Teletext and file subtitles have an outline and a soft shadow and sit low on the screen. Help ›
- When the channel does not say which language a subtitle is in, the receiver guesses it from the audio or the guide and says so on screen. For reading as text, 42 more languages can be downloaded on request to a stick or disk; for a missing language, the receiver asks whether to download it. Help ›
- The audio track and the subtitles are chosen automatically by the receiver language, with three preferences for each and a “Never show subtitles” option. What you pick by hand on a channel is remembered for that channel, and the SUB key also has a “No subtitles” line, on the TV and on the web. Help ›
- For movies, the receiver finds subtitles inside MKV, MP4 and AVI files by itself, WebVTT in MKV included, and those next to the movie, by name and language, with the right accented letters. The delay you set is remembered for each movie, and the file, delay and encoding can also be chosen on the web. Help ›
- Blu-ray and DVD subtitles in movies are shown sharp and can be read as text, just like DVB subtitles on channels. DVD subtitles inside MKV files do not show yet. Help ›
- A missing subtitle is searched for and downloaded from the internet, from the menu or the web interface, for movies, recordings and programmes on channels: the film is looked up from the TV guide and the speed is matched automatically. From the SUB key you jump to the next or the previous line. Help ›
Translation
- Translation goes through the service you choose: free services, services with your own key or a translation server in your home, found with the Search the home network button. With Custom address you can use any other server, and each name in the list says whether it works over the internet or locally. Help ›
- Backup services sit in a list: when the main service has too many requests, runs out of credit or quota, has no key or returns a server error, translation moves on to the next one by itself, with no pause. With Make it main you put a backup in place of the main service. Help ›
- Translation can also be set up from your phone: Set up from your phone shows a QR code, and the receiver's page opens on the phone with no code to type. You paste the key, the receiver tests it on the spot and recognises the service from it. Help ›
- Each service's key is stored encrypted on the receiver, stays after updates and is sent only to the server you set it for. The steps for each service have a QR code to the official key page and a Test the translation button, and the messages and key status appear in the menu language, on the web too. Help ›
- With Translate EPG, the programme guide comes in your language through the translation service you chose: only what is on screen is translated, on the bottom bar, the second bar, the guides, the programme details and the web guide. Translations are remembered on a stick or disk, and INFO shows the original text. Help ›
- With subtitle translation on, the titles of the current and the next programme on the bottom bar are translated automatically, through Translate the bottom bar, which is on by default. Each title is requested only once, so very little of the service quota is used. Help ›
- Teletext pages can be translated into your language through the translation service you chose, and in teletext the AUDIO key shows the original. Teletext translation is turned on in Subtitle translation and is off by default. Help ›
- The texts in the channels' HbbTV apps can be translated too, with the same service, secure pages included. This translation is also turned on in Subtitle translation and is off by default. Help ›
- The receiver does not read or translate subtitles while the TV is off or when they are already in the chosen language, so the processor and the translation service work only when needed. A translated line is requested only once. Help ›
TV and picture
- When a channel sends AV1, H.266 VVC, AVS2 or AVS3 video, which the receiver cannot play, you see the name of the format right away instead of a black screen, and the sound keeps playing. The message also appears in the web interface.
- When the screen stays black, the middle of it tells you why, for example no signal, encrypted channel, channel moved or tuner busy, and what you can do. If you choose the dish location right from this message, the channel restarts and the dish turns, without changing channel. Help ›
- On a channel with no picture, OK on the message shows what the channel actually sends: data, updates or apps, with their streams and bitrate. Help ›
- Picture quality, in Settings › Video, has profiles for SD, HD and 4K channels, in SDR, HDR10 and HLG, applied by themselves when the channel changes. You set brightness, contrast, colour, sharpness and noise and see the effect at once, compared on half of the screen; the same on the web. Help ›
- HDR output can be automatic by channel, always HDR10, always HLG or off; if you do not confirm the choice, the previous setting comes back. HDR10 and HLG are recognised from the broadcast and shown in the channel information. Help ›
- The Video screen sets the resolution and refresh rate, with 50 Hz recommended, and, where the receiver has them, colour space and colour depth; if the screen stays black, the old setting comes back by itself after twenty seconds. The list shows every resolution even when the TV announces only one. Help ›
- In Advanced video settings, the 4:3 picture row chooses how old 4:3 programmes look on a wide TV: whole with black bars, zoomed or stretched. The same in the web interface. Help ›
- The HDMI information screen shows what the receiver sends to the TV and what the TV accepts: the link, content protection and sound, plus HDR10 or HLG when the broadcast has them. Help ›
- H.265 channels play and E-AC-3 sound is heard. Movies also play with WMA, ALAC, TrueHD and DTS sound, as do DVDs without copy protection and sticks or disks formatted as exFAT or NTFS. Help ›
Channel list and info bars
- The channel list starts with Search channel, TV or Radio and the groups All, Satellites, Providers and Favourites, all reached with the arrows and OK. Under Satellites, cable and terrestrial come first, the current channel's satellite is open and the others open with OK; the GREEN key folds them all. Help ›
- Next to the list you see the channel in a small window and the current programme. Satellites appear with their position, channels being recorded are coloured, and the channel now streamed on the network carries the On network mark, in the list, the info bar and the web page. Help ›
- The second bar, on a double OK, has several pages about the channel, turned with left and right, and closes only with OK or Exit. The first page is the channel guide, with the description, the timer and recording; on full screen you pick audio tracks and subtitles from it with OK. Help ›
- The info bar stays for 8 seconds by default; in the settings you can keep it up to 30 seconds or never close it. On the bar, FTA or Encrypted appears only once it is known and is remembered for each channel. Help ›
- The Up and down arrows while watching setting decides what the arrows do while you watch: UP the radio list and DOWN the TV list, the reverse, the same list on both or changing the channel. It works on TV, on radio and with the TV remote. Help ›
Sound
- The equaliser has 10 bands, 7 presets and a night mode, with the settings remembered for each station, on the TV and in the web interface. It works on radio stations and TV channels with MPEG (MP2) sound; on those with AAC sound it is not available, for licensing reasons. Help ›
- On Automatic, the audio output sends AC3 5.1 unchanged only to a TV that accepts it, and the state also shows in the web interface. The DTS sound of movies can be converted to AC3 5.1 for amplifiers without DTS; it is off by default. Help ›
- In Volume and delay you choose the volume step, the volume remembered for each channel, equal volume across channels, the sound delay on HDMI, on the optical output and per track, and how many seconds the volume bar stays on screen, from 1 to 10. The same in the web interface. Help ›
- Audio tracks show the language name in the receiver's language, and tracks without a language say Original language, Audio description or Undefined. The chosen track is remembered for LPCM and DTS-HD sound too; sound can be mixed down to two channels, and the audio key does different things on a short or a long press. Help ›
Radio and DAB+
- On a radio station you see on the whole screen the station name, the programmes, the full song and radio text, AAC stations included, plus signal and quality as bars, as on TV. OK on a station in the list opens it straight on full screen, and the web interface has a Radio page. Help ›
- The sound bars on the radio screen work with any sound format, DAB+ stations and DVB-T2 radio from satellite included. The yellow key changes the visualisation, blue the colours, and green opens the equaliser. Help ›
- DAB+ digital radio stations sent over satellite play like any radio station and start straight away when you change channel. They appear in the channel list under Satellites, with their label next to the name, and you find them in search by name, by DAB+ or by ensemble. Help ›
- DVB-T2 programmes sent over satellite play like any channel, with their label in the list, and run without stops on large multiplexes too, for example Rai mux B. Recording them is not possible yet, and REC and the timer say so on the TV and in the web interface. Help ›
- The DAB+ and DVB-T2 satellite scan tells you beforehand where the dish will turn and how long it takes, and shows what it finds as it searches. At the end you see the stations by ensemble, each with Listen, and the dish stays on the scanned satellite until you pick a station or go back to your channel. Help ›
- DAB+ and DVB-T2 lists come from the HD Satelit server, with the station names, only for the transponders your receiver receives, so stations appear without searching the stream. The list can be updated at any time with a button or, if you turn the option on, every day. Help ›
- DAB+ and DVB-T2 stations start with a small buffer of 0.4 seconds, so short dropouts are neither seen nor heard. The bar and the radio screen show the signal of the tuner holding the satellite, and the Streams and settings web page lists the streams with their stations and adds stations by hand. Help ›
Recordings and movies
- The scheduled recordings list, on the TIMER key, shows where recordings are saved and how much space is free, and OK opens everything you can do with a recording. Recordings can also be scheduled, changed, stopped and deleted from the web interface, with each one's log. Help ›
- The recording location is chosen by itself at the first recording: a single stick or hard disk is used straight away, with several you are asked once, and with none you are told what to connect and can prepare a disk with a single choice. Live pause says clearly when there is not enough space on the stick and how much it needs. Help ›
- Disk formatting and checking also work with USB sticks, on the TV and on the web page, in ext4 or FAT32, and the question names what will be lost. From the web page they do not start while a recording is running or due to start within 10 minutes. Help ›
- The movie player, in the Media menu, skips forward and back, resumes a movie where you left off, lists the movies with details of the selected one and gives clear messages for formats that cannot be played. The Media menu also holds photos and the web browser. Help ›
- The Current film web page shows the movie that is playing, the remote control commands and the list of movies in the folder, from which you start one where you left off or from the beginning. If you start a channel from the web or the phone while a movie plays, the player closes and you stay on the channel, with its sound and subtitles. Help ›
- In the recordings player, H.265 recordings skip correctly too, and the blue key opens the marker editor, where you put cut markers in a recording to skip the adverts. Help ›
Internet: HbbTV, DVB-I, web browser
- The channels' HbbTV apps start with the RED or Portal key, with the programme in the corner the app asks for, and on exit the channel returns to full screen. The HbbTV mark on the bar turns red when the channel has an app. HbbTV is off by default and is turned on in Web browser settings. Help ›
- Videos in the channels' apps, for example from the ARD and ZDF media libraries, play on the receiver, with pause, seeking and audio language; copy-protected ones do not. Apps get what the HbbTV 1.5 standard asks for: their menus, their keys, channel switching and the guide. Help ›
- Apps that some channels send only in the satellite signal also start with RED: the receiver loads them from the signal and shows how much has loaded, and EXIT cancels. Help ›
- For internet channels (DVB-I) you choose the country, and the lists arrive by themselves, numbered, and play on the receiver, including those in DASH or HLS format. A satellite channel also shows its internet version and switches to it by itself when the satellite cannot be received. Help ›
- The web browser, in Main menu › Media, opens web pages on the TV with the remote: a pulsing yellow frame shows what you selected, and the BLUE key brings up a mouse-like pointer moved with the arrows. Anything you type without a dot in the address bar is searched on the internet. Help ›
- OK or TEXT on a field opens the on-screen keyboard, and you can also type addresses and passwords on your phone, in the web interface, from where they go into the field on the TV. The colour, shape, thickness and pulse of the frame are set in the browser settings. Help ›
- When an app does not open, the message gives the reason, for example an empty or moved page, an address that no longer exists, no internet or an app that works only in the background. Delete HbbTV data clears the cookies and choices saved by the apps. Help ›
- The Sharp HbbTV setting draws channel apps at the full size of the screen: text is sharper, but keys respond more slowly. It is off by default and can be set on the TV or on the web. Help ›
Dish and channel search
- Channel scan and Dish alignment and setup are the first entries in the main menu, on keys 1 and 2. Over satellite there are seven kinds of search: by transponder, by satellite, several satellites, by operator (those in your country first), with data typed by hand, DVB-T2 and DAB+ over satellite. Help ›
- Cable and terrestrial have five kinds of search each, also on combined tuners. A scan starts with the arrows and OK from the Search now line and shows an activity sign, the time left, worked out from how long it took on your receiver, dish rotation included, and a summary with figures at the end. Help ›
- After a cable search, the operator's network stays on the receiver: its list sits under Satellites with the operator's numbers, and the number keys take you to them, for example 23 to TVR 1. The network name shows on the bar and in the information; search by operator includes Digi, Vodafone and Nextgen. Help ›
- Detailed scan tunes each channel in turn and notes the resolution, frames per second, coding, access and the audio and subtitle tracks. It stops at any key press, at standby, at a recording or when you change channel, puts the previous channel back and continues next time where it left off. Help ›
- Channel search finds a channel by name and narrows the list by satellite, type, encrypted channels, audio and subtitle languages, sound format (mono, stereo or 5.1) and number of tracks. Next to each filter you see how many channels remain, taking the typed name into account. Help ›
- Search opens without stopping the picture and remembers the name and the filters: after you start a channel from the results, the list returns to the same search with the cursor on it, and RED starts a new one. Track languages are read while you watch: off, only the channel being watched or the whole transponder. Help ›
- The receiver comes with a ready-made channel database: the resolution, sound and subtitles of more than 8000 channels, used only where it knows nothing yet, and its version is shown in About. If you turn on the option in General settings, it takes a newer database from our server once a day.
- Update tracks goes through the satellites one by one: it waits for the dish while it turns, then at most 30 seconds for the signal, tells you how long is left based on earlier runs and continues next time where it left off. The yellow key skips to the next satellite, also from the web page. Help ›
- The receiver remembers on which satellites it has received a signal and when. Update tracks asks first about positions that never had a signal, and the motor screen shows when the satellite the dish is heading to was last received, on how many days and at what best quality. Help ›
- If the signal is lost while the dish is in position, the receiver first checks other frequencies of the same satellite and turns the dish back only if those cannot be received either, without stopping the programme or the recording. When it does not know where the dish is, it first checks whether the requested satellite is already received. Help ›
- Dish rotation is drawn on screen: the satellites on an arc, the start and the target in colour and the dish turning. The receiver learns the motor speed from every move and works out the angle from the USALS coordinates; the screen and the web page also show the motor limits, east and west. Help ›
- The motor has commands for one step east or west, moving until stopped, stored positions, limits and Go to satellite, each with a time limit. The receiver logs every command sent to the motor, so an unexpected dish movement can be explained. Help ›
- For the motor, you choose the dish location by country and city, type the coordinates or find it from the internet: the receiver shows the city found, the coordinates and the source, and changes the location only after you confirm. The same in the web interface. Help ›
- LNB setup works on the real tuner settings: it runs a signal test and goes back to the previous values by itself if no signal is received. Help ›
- Signal finder tunes the chosen transponder, DVB-S2 included, waits for the motor and shows the real signal. When the tuner is held by a channel streamed on the network, it tells you clearly what to do so you can measure. Help ›
- Multistream broadcasts, with several streams on one transponder, can be received: you choose the stream and the PLS sequence when scanning and on channels, also for DVB-T2 programmes and DAB+ stations from satellite. Help ›
- At first start, if a stick or disk holds a backup from other receiver software, the receiver asks whether to bring over the channels, bouquets, dish settings and scheduled recordings; the same on the web. Import is also in the Channel scan menu: it finds the backup by itself and makes a safety copy first. Help ›
- The FAV key in the channel list adds a channel to Favourites or removes it, and holding FAV on the channel you are watching adds it straight away; in the web interface every channel has a star. Help ›
Network and Wi-Fi
- Wi-Fi networks are found and joined with their password from a single screen, which also shows the link state. The receiver also shows you the freest channel for your router, the signal on any adapter and the devices on your home network; OK on a device opens its page. Help ›
- When the internet goes down, the receiver switches by itself to cable or another Wi-Fi network, and when you unplug the cable it moves to Wi-Fi and keeps its address. The network adapter list shows the active one, and the green key saves the settings. Help ›
- The network icon, on the bars and on the web pages, shows whether you are on cable or Wi-Fi, whether the internet works and where the problem is: the router or the provider. When the internet is lost a message appears on screen; the icon can be hidden in Settings › Network and Internet. Help ›
- In Media, Network places opens movies from a Windows computer, a NAS, an FTP or WebDAV server or the media server in your home, with their subtitles, only when you ask; the same from the web page. Help ›
- A NAS or a Windows computer in your home can also hold the recordings, after a write and speed test. The passwords for these places are stored encrypted on the receiver and are never shown.
- A VPN connection is turned on in the network settings, for all traffic or only for internet channels, and it is off by default. IPv6 is also off by default: the network runs on IPv4 until you turn it on in Network and Internet, where you also see its state. Help ›
- The clock sets itself from the internet at start and then regularly, without delaying the start; without internet, the time comes from the transponder and becomes certain when two different transponders give the same time. The clock state is shown in Date and time and in the web interface. Help ›
Web interface and phone
- The web interface opens the whole receiver on your phone or computer: every entry in the TV menu has its own page, with the same groups and names, and anything that opens only on the TV carries the TV mark. A shared header shows the receiver name, the version, the current channel and the page path. Help ›
- The web interface opens at the receiver's address or, on your home network, by its name. A new browser is paired with a six-digit code shown large in the middle of the TV, valid for one hour, and risky actions ask for confirmation. Help ›
- The Channels page shows the TV and radio lists, the current programme and search with filters, and starts the chosen channel on the TV. It opens on the satellite of the TV's channel, remembers the filters on a phone too, and channels that look alike say what sets them apart. Help ›
- In the web panel you see the receiver's screen with the remote next to it, below it on a phone, and All keys shows every key of the original remote. With the mouse you click on lines and buttons: right click is Exit, a wheel click is Menu, and the wheel scrolls. Help ›
- Under the capture buttons, Watch live here starts the TV's channel in the page, with the receiver's menu and subtitles on top and buttons for sound, full screen, audio track and subtitles. When you change channel, the picture follows to the new one by itself. Help ›
- A screenshot is downloaded from the web page with or without the menu, with the date and time in the file name. Next to Watch live here, Download playlist gives you the TV's channel to open in a player at home. Help ›
- TV in the browser starts the channel straight in your phone's or computer's browser, with no transcoding on the receiver: H.264 and MPEG-2 channels work, with MP2, MP3 or AC-3 sound. The receiver's on-screen display can appear over the picture, at full resolution, with sharp text. Help ›
- The Playlists page makes channel lists by satellite, provider or feature (4K, HEVC, subtitles, sound), as a file or a fixed address for a player at home, with the TV guide for all the days the receiver has. Help ›
- Fixed addresses for devices at home do not expire: you add, rename and revoke them on the TV in the browser page, and their list and revoking are on the TV too. On the channel pages every channel has Watch live, and the channels found can be taken as a playlist. Help ›
- The web pages have two themes, Classic and Pro, with the TV's font and colours you choose separately from the TV's; the theme is remembered in the browser, and on a phone the menu sits in a bar at the bottom. Help ›
- The usual phone apps for receivers (remote, channels, guide, recordings) work as shipped and, at home, without a password. Their access from outside the home is off by default; if you turn it on, they get in only with their own password, shown on the web interface screen. Help ›
- The apps see the list of recordings in each location, with the title, channel, time, length, description and tags, and play them straight from the receiver, with skipping, even one still being recorded, without disturbing the TV. Help ›
Safety and updates
- Updates come from the internet: you look for them and install them from Software update or the web interface, without rewriting the whole system from a stick. Quick update looks for the update, installs it and restarts the interface in one click; if something is recording, the restart waits for it to finish. Help ›
- Software update shows what is new in each new version separately, with its title, from the installed one up to the one being installed, and the text scrolls with left, right, CH+ or CH-. Help ›
- The receiver installs only updates signed by HD Satelit; an unsigned package, one altered on the way, a broken one or one made for another receiver is refused, with a clear message. The image itself is written and starts only on the receiver it is made for. Help ›
- The system libraries for downloads, secure connections and file playback are kept up to date with the known security fixes, and every version is checked before release. Their fixes arrive through the menu updates, without a new system from a stick. Help ›
- Settings backup saves to a stick or disk, on request or daily, the channels, the DAB+ and DVB-T2 lists, the settings, the network and Wi-Fi. After a new image, with the stick plugged in, the backup is restored by itself at first start, only once, and your choices stay even if the factory value changed. Help ›
- The receiver watchdog restarts the interface by itself if it freezes, but waits while a scan, track reading or dish rotation is running, and keeps a note of what caused the freeze. It has its own screen and a page in the web interface. Help ›
- After five unexpected stops within ten minutes, the receiver starts in safe mode, without added extensions, downloaded fonts and manual skin changes. You choose a normal start, the previous settings or What happened, with the cause of each stop; after three more stops, the previous settings are restored by themselves. Help ›
- Logging in to the receiver over SSH needs a password made by the receiver at first start or your computer's key, added from SSH access, from a stick or from the web page, where you pick the key file directly. Telnet is off. Help ›
- The Licences screen lists the programs in the image, each one's licence and text and the source code address, including the city data used for the dish location; the same list is in the web interface. The About screen also says where the receiver's base code comes from. Help ›
- The extension manager installs, removes and updates packages, grouped by category, and the list shows only what you installed; when you have nothing installed, it tells you so. Help ›
Speed and resources
- When you change channel, the picture starts quickly and the channel number appears on the bar almost at once, even with large radio channel lists. Until the new channel appears, the last picture stays on screen instead of a black screen; you can choose otherwise in Settings › Video. Help ›
- The receiver frees the decoder memory by itself: when needed, after a few minutes in standby it restarts without turning on the TV and stays in standby. It lets you know when the memory gets fragmented, and the feature can be turned off in Receiver watchdog. Help ›
- The Processor screen shows a chart of the temperature over the last hour or the last 30 minutes, with the processor speed and the thresholds of each mode. In Performance mode, at 85 °C the receiver drops to the lowest speed until it cools to 78 °C, and shows when this happened. Help ›
- Drawing acceleration on the graphics chip is on by default. If problems appear, the receiver goes back to drawing without it by itself, and after several unexpected stops the acceleration turns itself off.
- The information screens show the model, processor, memory, free space in gigabytes, network, tuners and installed version, in tidy tables; the same on the web page, with the raw text on the BLUE key. The cleanup screen shows what takes up space and frees memory. Help ›
Menus, look and front display
- Search settings finds any setting from a few letters typed with the remote's number keys, as in a text message, and OK takes you straight to it. You open it from the first entry in Settings, from the bottom of the main menu or with the TEXT key, from any menu. Help ›
- The display on the front of the receiver shows in turn what you choose, each for as long as you like: the time, date, channel, signal, processor temperature, programme, radio song and over a hundred other items, also in standby. Volume, typed digits and the new channel appear on it for a few seconds. Help ›
- The display can also show a character, two eyes and a mouth that blink, smile or fall asleep according to what happens on the receiver. You turn it on from the display screen or the web page; it is off by default. Help ›
- A mouse plugged into the receiver brings a pointer on screen: right click is Exit, a wheel click is Menu. On a USB keyboard, Enter is OK, Esc is Exit, F1 to F4 are the colours, F5 Menu, F6 Info, F7 the TV guide, and Romanian letters are typed with AltGr. Help ›
- Any text field can also be filled in with the on-screen keyboard, with Romanian accented letters, not only with the number keys as in a text message. Long fields move to the left as you type, so you always see the cursor and what you wrote.
- You choose the menu font from Open Sans, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Barlow and PT Sans, with a preview of each, on the TV and on the web page. From Google Fonts you can download other fonts to the receiver as well. Help ›
- You choose the boot picture from a gallery sorted into groups, in rows and columns, as on the web page. At the bottom, over the picture, the installed version is written, so you know the update went in; gallery screens you do not need can be deleted and brought back. Help ›
- The Pro theme gives the menus, bars and lists on the TV a new look; you choose it in Settings › Interface and appearance › Interface theme, separately from the web page theme. The menu can be a list or tiles, with the icon, the full name, the shortcut digit and the state; the yellow key switches them at once. Help ›
- Text size is set with a slider, with the percentage next to it and a live preview, and it also applies to texts drawn by the screens, whose lines grow with the letters. Text that does not fit scrolls slowly instead of being cut, so channel and satellite names show in full. Help ›
- Interface colours are chosen by role on a grid, with transparency and the palette colours and a preview; the hex code stays under Advanced. Colours can also be chosen from the web page. Help ›
- Screen margins are set on a test frame over the whole screen, each side with the arrows, with Back to defaults; the same on the web page. Help ›
- You can also use another skin: it loads at start, and if it fails, the receiver goes back to the HD Satelit skin by itself and says why. Under a skin with a different resolution, the HD Satelit screens adjust by themselves and fit whole, with their colours and fonts. Help ›
- At first start, the wizard has two pages: language and resolution, then a short presentation of the receiver's functions by group; at the end the main menu opens. The About screen shows the same functions and the contact address. Help ›
- Next to functions that are not ready or tested yet, the menus say (in progress) or (untested), and the start-up presentation says plainly what is still being prepared. Help ›
- Every key on the remote has its job, from SUBT, Timer and Portal to FAV, rewind and pause. The Remote controls tool reads the codes, tests every key on a drawn remote and pairs a USB remote. Help ›
- The TV remote controls the receiver over the HDMI cable: arrows, OK, digits, colours and playback; hold OK for the keys it lacks. The TV remote web page shows which key does what and sends the keys the TV remote does not have. Help ›
- In Standby and TV you choose whether the receiver turns the TV off at standby and on when it wakes, and what name it shows in the TV's HDMI input list. In standby the receiver turns off its HDMI output, so the TV can switch itself off. Help ›
Teletext
- Teletext opens on the TEXT key, with colours, graphics, subpages and the FastText and TOP coloured keys, full screen or over the programme. A page that arrives unchanged is not redrawn, and the clock in the header keeps running. Help ›
- Smooth teletext draws letters and block graphics with straight lines and rounded corners, and boxes continue straight from one row to the next. You choose it from MENU in teletext, where you also turn on the letter outline, shadow and relief, which are off by default. Help ›
- The receiver saves the channels' teletext by itself, and you can then read it without the dish, on the TV or in the web interface, and download it to a phone or computer. The copy is quick even on channels with hundreds of pages, and if it fails you see why. Help ›
Languages
- The menus are translated into 13 languages: Romanian, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Czech, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian and Turkish. The language list shows only fully translated languages, and the Extensions screen and the start-up wizard are translated too. Help ›
- The Romanian texts are written in plain language, without English words mixed in, and address you informally everywhere, in menus, messages and the web interface; the other languages do the same. Numbers read naturally, with no digit in front of a single item. Help ›
- Compass points and the decimal separator in satellite positions and coordinates follow the menu language: 5,0°V in Romanian, 5.0°W in English.
