What it is for

“By transponder” searches for the channels on a single transponder, that is, on one frequency of a satellite. You pick it from the list of transponders the receiver holds for each satellite. You do not type any numbers.

You choose the satellite first, then the transponder. Each transponder is shown with its frequency, polarisation, symbol rate, system, FEC and modulation, for example “11012 H 30000 DVB-S2 3/4 8PSK”. Transponders the tuner cannot receive are not shown in the list.

With “Network scan” set to Yes, the receiver also adds the transponders the provider announces in the signal, so you find the whole package starting from one transponder. Set to No (the factory setting), it searches only the chosen transponder, quickly.

With a motorised dish, the dish turns towards the satellite by itself when the search starts, and the list contains all satellites. With a fixed dish, the list contains only the satellites your dish sees, as set in Tuner settings.

The channels found are added to the channel list; the existing ones are not deleted. The same kind of search is also available in the web interface, on the /scanare/satelit/transponder page.

How to get here

Path: Main menu > Channel scan > Satellite > By transponder

Keys on the TV: MENU 1 1 1

In the web interface: the /scanare/satelit/transponder page (the “Channel scan” tab, the “Satellite” group, the “By transponder” button).

What you see on the screen

At the top: the title “Satellite scan: By transponder”, the time and the date. In the Pro theme, the blue square with the logo is to the left of the title.

The list has four rows: “Satellite (orbital position)”, with the satellite on the right (for example “19.2°E Astra 1N/1P”), “Transponder”, with the chosen transponder, “Network scan”, with No or Yes, and “Search now”. The values are in light blue; the selected row has a blue background.

Below the list is the preview: “Search on transponder 11012 H 30000 DVB-S2 3/4 8PSK, satellite …. This transponder only.” or “… The transponders announced in the signal are added too.”. With a motor, “The dish turns by itself towards …” is added. When a search is not possible, the reason is shown here.

Below that, in yellow, is the status line: “Change with OK, left or right; search with OK on “Search now”.” or the last message (“The configuration has been saved.”).

At the bottom, the colour keys: RED “Back”, GREEN “Search now”, YELLOW “Change”, BLUE “Save”.

OK on “Transponder” (and on “Satellite”, when the dish sees more than six satellites) opens its list in full screen, with RED “Back” and GREEN “Choose” at the bottom.

Once the search starts, the “Channel search” screen opens: at the top, the satellite name and the transponder being tried (for example “DVB-S2 8PSK 11012H / 30000 / 3/4”), the moving dots, the percentage and the number of channels found, the progress bar, “Time left” and “Transponders: x of y”, and below them the last channels found.

At the end the summary appears: “Channels found” and how many are new, how many TV (HD, 4K) and how many radio, “Transponders scanned” and how many had “no signal”, “Satellite: …”, “Duration” and, when the provider sends its network, the “Operator network” box.

Rows and settings

RowValuesDefaultWhat it does
Satellite (orbital position)the satellites of your dish, shown with their position, for example “19.2°E Astra 1N/1P”, “0.8°W …”; with a motor, all satellites in the receiver's list19.2°E, if the dish sees it; otherwise the dish's first satelliteThe satellite to search on. If no satellite is set in Tuner settings, the row shows “19.2°E (default, no satellite configured on the tuner)”, and the search tells you what to do. When you want to search on a satellite other than the one selected.
Transponderthe satellite's transponders from the receiver's list: frequency (MHz), polarisation (H, V, L, R), symbol rate (kSymb/s), system, FEC, modulation; for some, the stream and the PLS sequencethe satellite's first transponderThe transponder to search. The list leaves out those with values the tuner cannot receive (a rate below 1000 or above 60000 kSymb/s, APSK modulations, DVB-S2 without FEC) and, if the tuner cannot select the stream, those with several streams (multistream). When you know which transponder carries the channels you want (from a website listing satellite frequencies or from the channel information).
Network scanNo, YesNoNo: only the chosen transponder is searched. Yes: the transponders the provider announces in the signal (the network table) are added too, so the search may go through many transponders and takes longer. Set Yes when you want a provider's whole package, starting from one of its transponders.
Search nowOK on this row starts the search, the same as the GREEN key. The values are saved before the search starts. With a motor, the dish moves towards the satellite. After you have chosen the satellite and the transponder.
The channels foundThey are written to the channel list only at the end of the search. The existing channels are not deleted; those found again are updated. You find them in the channel list under Satellites, under the satellite name.

Keys

UP / DOWNMove the cursor to the row above or below. From the last row, DOWN goes to the first, and the other way round.
LEFT / RIGHTGo to the previous or next value of the selected row (satellite, transponder, No/Yes), without opening the list. Held down, they keep going.
OKOn “Transponder” it opens the transponder list; on “Satellite” it opens the satellite list when there are more than six, otherwise it goes to the next one; on “Network scan” it switches between No and Yes; on “Search now” it starts the search.
GREENStarts the search from any row (the screen shows “Search now”).
YELLOWDoes what OK does on the selected row (the screen shows “Change”). On “Search now” it does nothing.
BLUESaves the values and shows “The configuration has been saved.” (the screen shows “Save”).
RED or EXITCloses the screen and takes you back to the Satellite menu. The values are saved in this case too.
In the selection list: UP / DOWN, LEFT / RIGHTMove the cursor one row or one page at a time.
In the selection list: OK or GREENChooses the highlighted row and closes the list.
In the selection list: RED or EXITCloses the list without any change.
EXIT (on the “Channel search” screen)During the search, it stops it; the channels found so far are not written to the list. After the end, it closes the result.
OK (on the “Channel search” screen)After the end, it closes the result. While the search is running, it does nothing.

Step by step

Searching for the channels on a transponder

  1. Press MENU 1 1 1.
  2. On “Satellite (orbital position)”, choose the satellite (LEFT, RIGHT or OK).
  3. Press DOWN, then OK on “Transponder”, choose the transponder and press OK.
  4. Read the preview and press GREEN. At the end, read the summary and press EXIT.

Searching for a provider's whole package from one transponder

  1. Choose the satellite and one of the provider's transponders, as above.
  2. On “Network scan”, press OK until it shows Yes; the preview says “The transponders announced in the signal are added too.”.
  3. Press GREEN and let the search finish.

Starting the search from your phone

  1. Open the receiver's web interface and go to /scanare/satelit/transponder.
  2. Choose the satellite, the transponder and the network scan; below them you see the same preview as on the TV.
  3. Press “Search now” and follow the search in the “The search on the TV” card.

Problems and solutions

“The satellite tuner has no satellite configured. Set up the dish in “Tuner settings”, then come back here.” appears

Tell the receiver how the dish is connected: Menu > Dish alignment and setup > Tuner settings (MENU 2 1). Then come back here.

“Your dish is fixed and sees only: …, so you cannot search from here.” appears

The chosen satellite is not on your dish. Choose one of the satellites named in the message, or add it in Tuner settings if the dish really sees it (for example through a DiSEqC switch).

“… is on …, but this position is not in the motor list. Add it in “Tuner settings”.” appears

Your motor has a list of selected satellites. Add the position in Tuner settings (MENU 2 1) or choose another satellite.

“The dish location is not set, so the motor does not know which way to turn the dish. …” appears

With a motor, the receiver works out where to turn the dish from your location. Choose your country and town in Dish location (MENU 2 4), then search again.

“Satellite … has no transponder in the receiver's list that the tuner accepts. Search with manually entered data.” appears

The receiver's list has no usable transponders for the chosen satellite. Use “Enter data manually” (MENU 1 1 5) and type in the transponder's values.

The transponder I am looking for is not in the list.

It is either a new transponder or one with values the tuner cannot receive. Enter it by hand in “Enter data manually”.

The summary says “No transponder had a signal. Check the antenna, the LNB, the cable and the tuner settings (DiSEqC, motor).”

The dish is not pointing at the chosen satellite or the transponder no longer broadcasts. Check the signal in Signal finder (MENU 2 6) on the same transponder, then search again.

I stopped the search with EXIT and have no new channels.

Channels are written to the list only at the end of the search. Start it again and let it finish.
